Global DIY-Summit Unveils Inaugural Hall Of Fame In Rome

Global DIY Summit 2022 welcome

Rome is poised to witness the launch of a groundbreaking initiative at the 10th Global DIY-Summit 2024: the inaugural presentation of the Global DIY Hall of Fame during its Gala Dinner on June 12th. This pioneering endeavor will recognize outstanding leaders in the DIY sector who have left an indelible mark on the industry and their communities.

THE DIY RETAIL LEGACY AWARD 2024

The Global DIY Hall of Fame, an initiative of the Global DIY-Summit, will integrate former winners of both the Global and European DIY Lifetime Awards. Aligned with the Summit's mission to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Global DIY Hall of Fame aims to recognize not only large international retailers and suppliers but also other market players who have profoundly impacted their local communities. In line with this commitment, a new accolade, the DIY Retail Legacy Award, will be introduced. This award celebrates individuals who have transformed their local communities, bringing prosperity and positive change through their innovation and dedication in the DIY sector.

DIY Retail Legacy Award Recipient

Cosimo Fadda, the Honorary Chairman of the CFadda Group, will receive the DIY Retail Legacy Award 2024 at the 10th Global DIY-Summit in Rome, Italy, during the Gala Evening on the 12th of June.

The Fadda family, the most widely established and respected DIY retailer in Sardinia, and recognized across Italy and throughout Europe, began trading in the hardware sector in 1880 when Ignazio Fadda opened a small shop in the central Via Angioy in Cagliari. In the 1980s, Cosimo Fadda had the inspirational idea to expand the CFadda chain out of the restricted environment of the historic center and focus on a more peripheral area of Cagliari, easily reachable not only by customers from the city but also by those from more rural areas.

CFadda has since grown to be an icon in Sardinian life, with 12 stores, an online webshop, and an app serving the island population of 1.64 million with all of their DIY, home improvement, and green-living needs.

Besides this, in 2009, Cosimo founded the Bricolife Consortium alongside 7 other retailers in Italy. He held the Presidency until 2012, and the Consortium has since grown to represent 18 companies with a turnover of €300 million through 85 points of sale that actively collaborate in the expansion of the group and in achieving its economic, marketing, and communication objectives.

Upon the announcement of the recipient of the DIY Retail Legacy Award, EDRA/GHIN General Secretary John W. Herbert shared:

“Cosimo Fadda is the ideal example of family retailing at its very best. The Italian DIY and Home Improvement Market continues to be driven by these types of family “ferramenta” stores, and I cannot conceive of any other individual who deserves the DIY Retail Legacy Award in Italy as much as the widely respected and esteemed Cosimo Fadda.”

The decision to award the DIY Retail Legacy Award to Cosimo Fadda was made and confirmed by the boards of the European DIY Retail Association (EDRA), the Home Improvement Manufacturers Association (HIMA), and the Global Home Improvement Network (GHIN).

Managing Director of Organizzazione Orlandelli & HIMA Board Member, Marco Orlandelli, will be delivering the laudatory speech at the prize-giving ceremony at the 10th Global DIY-Summit, taking place in Rome from the 11th to the 13th of June 2024.
