GfK Forecast Easter bonanza for DIY Stores
The first 2 weeks of Easter this year will see over 106 million transactions, or 10,900 sales per second according to figures released by GfK.
This is likely to provide a much welcome boost to DIY stores, who have experienced poor Easter sales in previous years.
GfK estimate that more than £460m will be spent across the key Easter period, with £130m spent over the Easter Weekend.
Over the same period in 2006, £420m of total sales took place in DIY Superstores, of which 25% were garden related. With good weather forecast for Easter 2007, even greater levels of growth in the garden sector are anticipated.
Daniel Fearnley, Account Director for GfK Marketing Services says "The conditions are right for Easter Weekend 2007 to be a bouyant weekend of trading. In fact, this could be the best Easter since 2004 as consumers head to the stores and show their garden some TLC after the winter."
