Former Wyevale CEO Nicholas Marshall linked to possible Homebase bid

The Financial Times has reported that Nicholas Marshall, the former CEO of Wyevale Garden Centres who left the business following a takeover by Terra Firma, is in discussion with private equity groups over a possible bid for Homebase.

In the report, Mr Marshall advised that he has not approached Home Retail Group and confirmed he has been looking at the business for several years, adding: “Undoubtedly something has got to happen. It can’t just sit there treading water”.

The report went on to explain that people close to the situation were of the view that if a successful bid was made, Mr Marshall would focus on making Homebase into a ‘more family friendly retailer’.

No indication as to the value of any potential bid was given.
