First IKEA City Store In Italy Opens In Rome
Today the first smaller format IKEA store in Italy opened its doors in Fiumicino, Rome, with two IKEA plan and order points planned in the coming months in the centre of Rome.
IKEA Roma Fiumicino is the 21st new IKEA location that Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, has opened since September 2022, as the retailer continues its ambition to get closer to customers for both online and in-person inspiration and shopping.
Ingka Group is investing EUR 3 billion in new and existing stores by the end of 2023 to become more accessible, in a move to meet changing customer behaviours around the world.
“Today we are bringing IKEA closer to the Romans. We want to be there whenever and wherever our customers want to meet IKEA – and our new fantastic store in Fiumicino is one of the ways we are becoming more accessible. We see great potential for physical locations in our omnichannel approach and are proud to be opening new IKEA locations around the world,” says Tolga Öncü, Head of IKEA Retail, Ingka Group.
The new IKEA store in Fiumicino has more than 100 co-workers and covers around 9 000 square metres, roughly one fifth the size of the other larger IKEA stores in the Rome area.
The smaller store format offers customer inspiring showrooms, planning support for more complex purchases and a new Swedish Deli where customers can get a taste of Sweden. Smaller items are available to bring home directly, while the full IKEA range is available to order.
“The opening of the city store in Fiumicino brings us closer to where we want to be – more accessible to our customers, more convenient, and truly omnichannel. We are thrilled to further expand our physical presence with the upcoming opening of two new Plan & Order Points in the center of the capital”, says Asunta Enrile, Country Retail Manager and CSO IKEA Italy.
Rome joins cities such as London, Mumbai, and Stockholm, where Ingka Group has also recently opened IKEA city stores. This year, the retailer also plans to open its first IKEA city stores in San Francisco and Copenhagen, as well as dozens of smaller IKEA plan and order points – also known as IKEA planning studios in some markets.
