Evergreen Expands For The Future With Growth Partnership
Evergreen Garden Care and SED Services are delighted to confirm that they have joined forces to continue the journey towards Peat Free Growing Media with a partnership that has acquired the former production sites of The Greener Gardening Company at Kirkby on Merseyside and Richmoor in Somerset.
The partnership sees SED expand their Green Waste Composting capability, as well as collaboratively developing innovative Peat Free materials alongside Evergreen’s Levington Research and Development Centre.
Evergreen has committed to moving 100% peat-free in the UK within the next few years – with its market leading brand Miracle-Gro in 2024 and Levington in 2025. The new manufacturing sites give Evergreen the additional capacity to accelerate its growth plans and work even closer with its retail partners to exit peat and grow the Peat-Free Growing Media category.
This investment comes at a critical moment, just before the gardening season kicks off again. Evergreen is season-ready with good stock levels and this additional capacity further ensures that Evergreen can support this season.
Colin Stephens, Evergreen Garden Care’s UK Managing Director, said: ”This partnership demonstrates our commitment to the transition to peat-free, ensures we are able to meet all of our customers’ demands at all times and allows us to drive the development of this category.
“We are proud of our range of industry-leading, high-performing peat free mixes that meet every gardener’s need. We want to be sure that we are able to deliver even more of these products whenever they’re needed.
Working with Stuart Baldwin and his team at SED is exciting for our business as the quality of the SED process is second to none and will allow us to evolve new formulations and materials to ensure we strive to give consumers the best possible product.
As well as Kirkby being our first peat free only manufacturing plant, it is an opportunity to create up to 10 jobs in the local area, with further expansion planned over the next year.
“We are in a strong position for the Spring with our season readiness and with this new capability, our capacity for making and storing growing media will bring us to a new level for years to come.”
SED Services Ltd’s Managing Director Stuart Baldwin, said, “SED are extremely excited to have been able to secure the purchase of the former TGGC sites. This acquisition will allow us to further expand our operations and streamline our process’s. Our venture with Evergreen will be a new chapter for both parties and we are confident that together we can offer the market a quality, sustainable peat free product for years to come.”
