eBay to launch click-and-collect service with retailers
Online marketplace eBay is set to launch a service enabling shoppers to pick up products from retailers’ stores.
Customers who buy products from particular retailers on eBay will be able to collect them from the retailer’s physical stores, as if they had made the order thought the retailer’s own website.
The service was trialled last year, and it appears to have had positive feedback from eBay users.
“Customers still like shops, and it brings back some of the humanity to the digital experience that perhaps wasn’t there before. It’s great for retailers, because it brings in footfall,” said eBay VP of UK trading Tanya Lawler.
The company has not yet confirmed when the click-and-collect service will officially launch or which retailers are involved.
“For us at eBay, it’s a natural extension. It was trialled last year and we’re looking at our plans going forward.”
