Drift Back To The Office Results In Rise In Retail Footfall
Springboard has published retail footfall data for week 3, noting that the drift back to the office has seen footfall rise.
Springboard Index - Retail Park Index - Week 3 2022
2022 vs 2021 = +60.4%
2022 vs 2019 = -4.8%
Week-on-week = -0.7%
Springboard's Marketing and Insights Director, Diane Wehrle, said:
"Footfall across UK retail destinations rose last week from the week before, driven by rises in high streets and shopping centres.
The week started strongly, with an increase in footfall across all destinations between Sunday and Tuesday from the week before, followed by a marginal drop mid-week before strengthening again for the remainder of the week.
Footfall rose from the previous week in all of the various town types; in Central London and city centres around the UK – which have the greatest concentration of office employees – footfall rose, reflecting the removal of the Plan B work from home guidance. Springboard’s Central London Back to the Office benchmark – which comprises those locations in Central London that are closest to offices - rose last week from the week before."
