Dobbies is celebrating National Children's Gardening Week (27 May – 4 June) with the launch of a nationwide search to find its new Little Seedlings Ambassadors. The garden centre will also host a free workshop on the brilliant world of bugs this Sunday 4 June.

The UK’s leading garden centre is looking for eager young gardeners to encourage the younger generation to give gardening a go and do their part for the wildlife and environment around them. These ambassadors will be the new faces of Dobbies’ free monthly Little Seedlings Club workshops aimed at those aged 4-10 years.

Successful applicants will get involved in the monthly workshops, write articles for the website, and may even feature on the Dobbies podcast. Entering is easy, with budding gardeners invited to apply via dobbies.com where they will complete a short form.

The Brilliant World of Bugs theme for June’s workshop was chosen by William, age 3 who attends Dobbies’ Carlisle monthly children’s gardening club.

During this free session, Dobbies’ horticulture experts will teach children how to identify different bugs, including the Allium Leaf Miner and Box Tree Caterpillar, and where to find them. They will also learn how to care for bugs and take part in a craft session creating a butterfly out of a paper plate.

Dobbies’ Community and CSR Communications Executive, Chloe Bell, explained: “We can’t wait to hear from young gardening enthusiasts. Our Little Seedlings Club is a very popular free session, allowing children to understand, explore, and connect with plants, wildlife, and the environment around them. Ideally, we’re looking for young ambassadors who share a passion for these elements and have the confidence to share this enthusiasm with their peers.

“Our June session, during National Children’s Gardening Week, is a great opportunity for newbies to come along and see what our Little Seedlings Club is all about. We hope to educate children on the fascinating world of garden bugs.”

Advance booking is required to secure a free spot at Dobbies’ June Little Seedlings Club session. For more information on how children can participate visit, Dobbies.com/Little Seedlings.

Little Seedlings Club is currently not running at Dobbies’ Beaconsfield, Hungerford and Keston stores.

Applying to become a Little Seedlings Ambassador couldn’t be easier. Applicants will complete a short form at dobbies.com explaining why they would like to become a Little Seedlings Ambassador, as well as providing a photograph of themselves. Guardians can do this on the child’s behalf and applications are open from 26 May to 16 June.
