Dobbies attracts new bidder
The Times has reported that Philip Day, owner of Edinburgh Woollen Mill, has made an unexpected bid for Dobbies Garden Centres.
Tesco has not officially announced plans to sell the chain, but has reportedly hired Greenhill to oversee the sales process. It is thought that other, non-core business units owned by Tesco - including restaurant chain Giraffe - will also be sold as the company returns its focus to core operations grocery retailing.
Terra Firma, the private equity owner of Wyevale Garden Centres, is also understood to have submitted a bid for Dobbies.
