Discounter Rumoured To Be Moving On Andover Homebase

Homebase store angled 725 x 500

Last month, it was revealed that Homebase was to close its Andover store, and it has since been confirmed that it will shut its doors for the final time in February.

A Homebase spokesperson said: “We can confirm our Andover store will be closing with the last day of trading set for February 20, 2020 as a result of the landlord terminating the lease.”

Rumours that B&M is planning to move into the soon-to-be-vacated Homebase unit have been circulating, fuelled in part by a posting on a jobs board for a Deputy Store Manager in Andover.  B&M currently has no retail properties in the Andover area and the company has historically moved into large retail units vacated by brands such as Homebase, Toys R Us, among others.

B&M opened in a former Homebase unit in Brecon in September 2019 and in Ipswich in July 2019.

When contacted by The Andover Advertiser, B&M refused to comment on speculation that the company intended to open a store on the Homebase site, stating: “We’re always looking at sites for new stores and would welcome the opportunity to invest in the region.”

The closest Homebase stores to Andover are located 17 miles away in Winchester and 20 miles away in Basingstoke.
