The PM’s charm offensive backfired embarrassingly when one worker, named Hannah, asked if he was a member of the firm’s customer loyalty scheme, the B&Q club.
Squirming Mr Cameron replied: “I’m afraid I’m not. I have to make a confession. I am famously bad at DIY.
“I have constructed a garden shed. That took a long time.
"I have – this is a terrible thing to say – I have assembled some IKEA furniture.”
As the workers began jeering loudly, he tried to rescue the situation, spluttering: “It was very difficult.
"It took an enormously long time. It completely did my head in while I did it.”
