  • Everyday home and garden retailer wilko welcomed Luton locals as it opens its third new store this month

Household and garden retailer, wilko, celebrated its return to Luton on 6th December, and welcomed queues of returning wilko customers eager to get their hands on their much-loved products.

The store opening, its third in two weeks following initial concept store openings in Plymouth and Exeter, comes ahead of a further national roll-out across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with the next wave of store openings to be announced imminently.

Deputy Mayor of Luton, Cllr Z Raja (and her consort) [main picture] officiated the launch with a ribbon cutting, the first customer received a bumper prize and the next fifty in the queue got their hands on a goody bag filled with top-rated wilko products to take home and enjoy.

The new wilko Luton houses everything you’d expect from wilko and more (20% more product lines actually). It offers customers all the essentials needed to get their home and garden jobs done – great value wilko own brand products alongside popular named brands.  Customers are also able to browse and order from the 100,000 items available on wilko.com using self-service terminals for home delivery.

Pick and mix is back alongside the welcome return of the National Lottery.  New fixtures in these concept stores include a paint mixing service on-site, so customers can create and take home their very own perfect shade for their next DIY project.

When recruiting teams for the new stores, ex-wilko employees have been prioritised.

All three of the new stores will deliver the very best of what wilko as a brand that people know, love and trust had to offer, including its advanced own-brand capabilities and digital marketplace, alongside the operational efficiencies of The Range, its buying expertise and infrastructure.

CEO of CDS Superstores, trading as The Range and wilko, Alex Simpkin said; “The customer reaction to our Luton store opening today has been fantastic and proves we’re doing the right thing in returning this much-loved retailer to UK high streets.”

Following the recent re-launch of wilko.com and the announcement that wilko products are to be sold in The Range’s 200 stores, parent company CDS Superstores International which owns both The Range and wilkobrands plans to reintroduce wilko stores across the UK with the roll-out continuing throughout 2024. And, for the first time in the brand’s history, wilko stores are planned for Northern Ireland.
