Countdown to opening of Abroath B&Q

AFTER months of team bonding, store re-fitting and now daily lorry deliveries, the former Focus DIY store is preparing to open its doors as B&Q Arbroath on Thursday (April 5).

In the last few weeks nearly 15,000 products have been delivered, as well as nine display kitchens and 11 display bathroom suites to ensure the store opens with the best possible range of home improvement and garden products at the best prices.

B&Q’s recent acquisition has created 30 new jobs for the local area.

B&Q is the UK’s largest home improvement and garden centre retailer, offering a huge range of products to help make home improvement easier for customers to create their dream homes.

Over the past few months, the teams have been working together to ensure customers will receive expert advice from people with real experience and practical skills.

Store manager Ian Watson said: “Members of the team - existing and new - are really excited about the store opening and to meeting all our new customers from the surrounding community.

“The new team spans several generations ranging in age from 17 to around 66 – they may be different in age but they’ve got one thing in common – they’re passionate about home improvement and want to help make it easier for all our customers.”

On Saturday, April 21, B&Q’s celebrity ambassador and star of Channel 4’s Restoration Man, George Clarke, will be visiting the new store to celebrate the opening with staff and customers.

Arbroath East and Lunan councillor Jim Millar commented: “I am delighted that B&Q have decided to open an outlet in Arbroath.

“This new store will bolster the retail park, create jobs and provide more choice for shoppers.

“I believe that the choice of Arbroath for this latest store signifies a vote of confidence in the area’s local economy, and I hope that other retailers will look at this new store and also see opportunities for investment.”
