Cemco Buying Group bolstered by two new members

Independent builders merchant buying group Cemco has two new high-profile members.

Plumbstore (Plumbing & Heating Supplies) Ltd and Norman Piette Ltd - Timber and Builders Merchants, Guernsey, will join the group from January 1 2012.

Plumbstore Ltd is Scotland's largest independent plumbing and heating supplies merchant. The head office is in Glasgow with a further 11 branches throughout Scotland and a turnover of £17m.

The company will significantly assist Cemco's strategy of strengthening its Lightside portfolio of members. They are positioned strategically with ongoing expansion plans and are committed to moving the purchasing power over to the Cemco supplier agreements.

Plumbstore director Fred Stevenson says: "Joining a progressive organization such as Cemco, even at this early stage, gives us the opportunity to prosper next year in a very difficult market place. It is exciting and we look forward to doing our bit to make Cemco even stronger in the years to come".

At the other end of the country, Norman Piette Ltd is the largest builders' merchant in Guernsey and also one of the oldest in the British Isles. It was formed in 1739 and records exist which show that it supplied English oak sawn in Guernsey to the admiralty for the building of Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory. The company now has a buying power of £13m.

Both these companies are welcomed into the Cemco organization making the number of key independents now 33 companies with a total of 155 branches.
