Cargo brand to be phased out to expand Bensons store network
Steinhoff is to phase out its Cargo Homeshop stores chain with a number of its shops to be used to expedite Bensons for Beds’ growth in the South East.
According to trade journal Retail Week, Steinhoff will begin a phased withdrawal of the Cargo fascia during the first quarter of 2016.
It didn’t say how many of the stores would become Bensons shops or how many would close, though it did say the Cargo brand and business would continue to trade online once the transformation had taken place.
Cargo trades from 42 stores across the South of England with a handful of shops in the Midlands though none further north than Derby.
Almost all Cargo stores are located in shopping centres and on high streets, unlike the circa 270-store Bensons format, which is predominantly traded from retail parks.
18 of Cargo’s 42 stores have a Bensons for Beds shop within a five mile radius.
