British rival to Amazon plans Autumn launch

A new British marketplace which aims to take on eBay and Amazon in the UK will launch this fall.

OnBuy, which goes live on November 1, will be aimed at businesses and not individuals who want to make private sales.

It is thought that the service will be subscription based, but the monthly fee is waived if you sign up before the launch date.

The online retailer, set up by entrepreneur Cas Paton, says its cost-per-sale to vendors is lower than those charged by Amazon and eBay, allowing vendors to sell at lower prices and to pass savings on to customers.

Cas Paton, managing director of OnBuy, said: “The OnBuy team are really excited about the launch of the new marketplace.

“We’re looking forward to building some long-lasting business relationships with some world class sellers.”

30,000 products have already been registered, and mainly contain products from the electronics and technology and home and garden categories. Other USP’s include no listing fees for products, a clear Amazon esque design and no competition with other sellers which allows vendors to have full control of marketplace prices.
