Branded garden chemicals - where would you buy them from?

Whilst completing the lunch time donut run, Chris from the Insight Team was drawn to the small offering of branded gardening products sold by Asda and wondered how they compared in price to the likes of Tesco, the specialist Garden Centres and the leading Home Improvement retailers.

Back at the office, he set to work identifying a list of directly comparable, branded items that would form a basket from Asda, Tesco, B&Q, Homebase, Wyevale and Bunnings Warehouse, the latest player to enter the DIY & garden having purchased Homebase in February 2016.

We know that seasonal gardening is not a core category for the Grocers and nowhere near the significance it has for players such as B&Q or Homebase/Bunnings.

Once all items had been checked and double checked the results were really surprising, with one of the most well-known Garden Centres in the country, Wyevale being the most expensive – nearly 65% more than the lowest priced retailer.

Homebase & Tesco were virtually identical with Asda coming out the best of the Supermarkets, 19% below B&Q.

And guess who came out lowest? take a look at the results  here for further information.
