B&Q to offer 'drive yourself' van hire
DIY giant B&Q has taken delivery of 137 Ford Transit vans, allowing customers to manage their own home deliveries.
The retailer has signed a three-year contract with rental firm Hertz, enabling customers to hire a van from B&Q car parks. The service follows a 23-week pilot, and will mean customers can save time by not waiting at home for deliveries, and that B&Q will make less B2C drop-offs.
"This agreement marks a new era in home delivery," says Mark P Frissora, CEO and chairman of Hertz.
Meanwhile B&Q says the new service from 137 of its stores, offers a simple and convenient way for customers to take their purchases home quickly.
Vans are £14 per hour to hire, which covers insurance, tax, congestion charges and 20 miles of fuel.
