- The company is on track to hit its target of 100% responsible sourcing of wood and paper in 2024.
B&Q, the UK’s leading home improvement retailer, has announced its achievement of 99.3% responsible sourcing of timber and paper products in 2023, with a target to reach 100% in 2024. This initiative is a cornerstone of B&Q’s commitment to help customers make more sustainable choices, and reflects the company’s heritage as a founding member of the Forest Stewardship Council® over 30 years ago.
B&Q’s responsibly sourced wood and paper products are certified with full chain of custody by either the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)1 or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), ensuring that all timber and paper products sold by B&Q are sourced from well-managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.
The 99.3% of responsibly sourced wood and paper products covers a breadth of products sold by B&Q: from wallpaper, picture frames and kitchen cabinets, to timber, internal doors and leisure furniture, as well as decking planks, amongst others. They can be identified by the use of either the Forest Stewardship Council logo – FSC – or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification - PEFC logo, on their labelling.
B&Q require high standards for the wood and paper products that they sell, whether sourced from a forest or a softwood plantation, and have been responsibly sourcing wood and paper products for over 30 years. This 99.3% milestone is a testament to B&Q’s relentless pursuit of its sustainability goals.
Paul White, B&Q’s Commercial Director said:
“At B&Q, we’re committed to helping customers make more sustainable choices, and to sourcing 100% of our wood and paper products from responsibly managed forests. This year we’re on track to hit that target having achieved 99.3% responsibly sourced wood and paper in our supply chain in 2023.”
As B&Q looks ahead, it reaffirms its commitment to reducing its impact on the environment and to helping colleagues and customers to make more sustainable choices.
