B&Q Radlett depot closes
B&Q's Radlett depot has reportedly closed, resulting in job losses for over 100 members of staff.
A former member of staff told local press that an announcement had been made earlier this year about moving the distribution centre's activities to Swindon and Doncaster. He said that some employees had been offered the chance to work at the new locations:
“They weren’t all offered it because distance-wise it’s not practical and so the majority were offered redundancy.
“They’re all unemployed now apart from those who managed to get jobs; we have had one or two agencies come on site and interview various people for jobs and so one or two have got that.”
A B&Q spokesperson said that the business had been moved to keep up with 'fast-paced industry requirements', adding:
“B&Q has moved its distribution work from Radlett to alternative locations and will be fully vacating the site at the end of November when our lease expires and we hand the site back to the landlord.”
Wincanton, which provided distribution services for B&Q, said:
“Following B&Q’s decision to consolidate their fulfilment and delivery operations in Radlett, which will result in the closure of the current site and transfer to Doncaster and Swindon, we are working with B&Q to ensure that all employees are provided with the required support throughout this transition.”
