B&Q on Track to be Lowest-Priced Kitchen Retailer for Second Year in a Row
Leading home improvement retailer B&Q is on track to be the ‘Lowest Priced National DIY Retailer of Kitchens’ for the second year in a row, according to Kitchen-Compare.com.
The leading comparison site, that tracks and compares the prices, quality, installation services and finance deals of the UK’s largest kitchen retailers, first awarded the accolade to B&Q in 2017. Since then, the DIY retailer’s position on Kitchen-Compare.com’s real time pricing tracking has put it in pole position to be named ‘Lowest Priced National DIY Retailer of Kitchens’ again this year.
The 2018 award will be decided in December 2018 and with four times as many lowest priced kitchens as its nearest competitor, B&Q is leagues ahead in offering customers the best value for money. B&Q also has a high ‘quality’ score of 8.8 out of 10 according to the expert panel.
Steve Collinge, Managing Director at Kitchen-Compare.com said, “B&Q continues to consistently offer the lowest priced kitchens and is currently storming ahead of the competition, including Homebase, Wickes and IKEA, for the Lowest Priced Kitchens in our comparison data. Every day we monitor the activity of each of the UK's leading kitchen retailers and track the individual component prices of comparable kitchen styles and, if the current trend continues, it looks like B&Q will scoop the accolade again for 2018.”
Mandy Winser, Category Director for Kitchens at B&Q said, “We’re proud to consistently offer the lowest priced kitchens to customers. Our mission is to help people create good homes and to do that we need to make home improvement projects affordable all year round. Our 2,000 price drops across store, alongside our stable low prices in our kitchens category, help do just that.”
Data at Kitchen-Compare.com shows that for 2018, B&Q has the lowest price offering on 20 kitchens, significantly more than the five logged for Homebase and Wickes and zero on the scoreboard for Wren.
B&Q is continuing to invest in the Kitchens category and has already begun the recruitment of 800 new colleagues for its Showroom areas to help customers. This new recruitment phase paves the way for customers to deal with just one person in store, making the process simpler and the experience faster, with the whole process from booking a design appointment to home delivery being done in less time. All staff will be fully trained on B&Q Spaces, the business’s unique and interactive design tool that makes designing and managing a kitchen or bathroom project easier than ever before. The software captures measurements and presents customers with an accurate design and price for their project.
B&Q offers customers a choice of 26 different kitchens. For more information on B&Q’s Kitchens and Bathrooms, visit www.diy.com/Kitchens.

ABOUT KITCHEN-COMPARE.COM CALCULATIONS
Kitchen-Compare.com calculates total price for each kitchen by adding up components used to make up the typical eight-unit kitchen for comparable designs sold by the UK’s national DIY retailers, which includes: B&Q, Wickes, Homebase, Wren, Magnet, IKEA and John Lewis.
Initial visual analysis of the products takes place to determine if the kitchens are comparable in terms of their colour and appearance. This allows comparison to take account of kitchens across a range of price points from entry level to most premium kitchens. These prices are monitored and recorded throughout the year.
