B&Q fined for fly posting
DIY retailer B&Q has been convicted of fly posting in Stockport and order to pay a fine and costs after pleading guilty at Magistrates Court last week.
B&Q was fined £1,500 plus £733.51 for costs and £15 victim surcharge. During the hearing on Wednesday 16 February, B&Q admitted to fly posting on the lampposts on Georges Road, Heaton Norris contrary to the Highways Act 1980.
The prosecution against B&Q was brought by Stockport Council's environmental services following an investigation into the fly posting dating back to July 2010.
A Stockport Council officer found the posters on the lampposts on the roundabout on Georges Road and despite several warning letters, the store continued to fly post.
Cllr Stuart Bodsworth, executive member for the environment at Stockport Council, said: "Fly posting is an eyesore and can make an area look cluttered and uncared for. The Council takes this matter very seriously and will always try to put together enough evidence to prosecute people responsible for fly-posting."
