B&Q creates famous horror scenes to take fear out of DIY
DIY giant films its own versions of classics, including Psycho, The Shining and Poltergeist, with a DIY twist as part of new viral campaign.
The creation of the three 10-second online virals follows research by B&Q, which revealed that 53% of Brits are scared of DIY, and marks the launched of free instore demos, as part of B&Q's campaign to make DIY easier. The sessions will be held across all 330 B&Q stores nationwide and will show customers how to carry out simple DIY jobs, such as making a hanging basket, growing your own and building a deck.
B&Q's comic take on the famous Psycho shower scene features a screaming woman who pulls back the curtain to reveal her husband, screwdriver in hand, who exclaims, "calm down love, I'm just replacing a broken tile'.
Meanwhile, The Shining clip depicts another screaming woman behind a door, as a man chops through with an axe, only to pop his head through and say, "a bit of frosted glass is going to look great here, love."
B&Q director of multi-channel Dave Elliott commented: "With these creative, humorous online virals we hope to capture the public's imagination and show that, while DIY can seem scary, with the right help it doesn't have to be. At B&Q we have celebrity experts, qualified in store advisors, in store demos and products designed to make it easier and take the fear out of DIY."
