B&Q Commitment to sustainability
Our approach to sustainability is called One Planet Home. We’’ve worked with independent sustainability experts, BioRegional, to develop this vision and the robust and challenging programme that underpins it. This approach is fundamentally changing the way we do business.
So what B&Q have done so far:
•• 16% absolute CO2 reduction since 2006.*
•• Over 4,000 independently accredited One Planet Home products available in store at no extra premium.
•• 95% of all timber we sold in 2009 was traceable to responsibly managed sources.
*Against our 2006/7 baseline
Our commitments:
•• 20% reduction in CO2 by the end of the 2012 financial year and we are targeting a 90% reduction in CO2 by the end of the 2023 financial year.
•• 90% reduction (by weight) of waste to landfill by the end of the 2012 financial year.
•• 10% reduction in volume of water used (m3) by the end of the 2012 financial year against a 2007/8 baseline.
•• We will only sell timber (including all products containing any wood product) that is certified to confirm that it is responsibly sourced by 2012. We are working with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) to achieve this objective.
