Boris Johnson supports B&Q flash grow
Trafalgar Square is set to be re-named Tomato Square this Friday (May 20) as B&Q host a Flash Grow event. Backed by Mayor Boris Johnson, the day sees a team of tomato-dressed helpers from the store give away two lorry loads of tomato plants in a bid to get Londoners growing their own fruit and veg.
The initiative is in partnership with the Capital Growth campaign, which aims to create 2,012 new community food-growing spaces across London by the end of 2012. Boris says, 'London has embraced the 'grow your own' revival as testified by the army of 35,000 volunteers involved in our Capital Growth scheme. I hope this tomato plant giveaway will entice a new crop of Londoners to get the gardening bug, put on some wellies and join up to Capital Growth.'
