Asda To Cut 475 Head Office Roles
Asda has told staff it is to make 475 redundancies at its Leeds and Leicestershire offices and reduce hybrid working.
Chairman Lord Rose emailed staff on Tuesday to advise of a planned business restructure and the requirement for staff to be present in the office for three days a week from January, the intention being to "remove duplication and simplify structures", and strengthen Asda's position for 2025.
Around 5,000 members of staff work across George House in Leicester and Asda House and Britannia House in Leeds.
Lord Rose said: “Change is never easy and is unsettling, but the executive team believe it is necessary to enter 2025 in a stronger position, fully focused on serving our customers, delivering our ambitions and driving long-term growth.”
An Asda spokesperson told the BBC: "The changes which are being communicated today will result in 475 colleagues being made redundant at our head offices in Leeds and Leicestershire.
"In addition, fixed-term contractors who are working on our IT transformation project will also leave over the course of the next few months as this project finishes."
Regarding home-working, the spokesperson said: “This approach brings us in line with our competitors and the wider market, allowing us to build high-performing teams with a collaborative culture and respond to what our business needs the most.
“The change is effective from January 2025 to allow time for all colleagues to make any necessary arrangements.”
