Argos unveils multichannel stats at Madrid conference
Speaking from the IBM Smarter Commerce Global Summit in Madrid [on May 23rd], CIO of the Home Retail Group in the UK, Pete Connor shared some fascinating statistics about the multichannel business of the group's largest retail brand, Argos.
Following on from my blog post 'John Lewis: Multichannel shoppers spend 3.5 times more', I am delighted to impart more multichannel retail statistics - this time for UK general retailer, Argos.
Part of the £5.6 billion Home Retail Group, Argos offers 33,000 products to the UK market through 800 stores, online, catalog, mobile web and apps and instore kiosks.
Here are some of the numbers that were shared with the IBM Smarter Commerce Global Summit delegate audience earlier today [23rd May]:
- 48% of sales are multichannel
- 90% of all sales involve the store in some way
- 39% of sales are online
- Between the website going live in 1998 and 2005, Argos generated £1 billion in online sales
- Check and reserve accounts for 28% of all sales and is the fastest growing fulfilment method
- 20% of all in-store transactions are processed through kiosks
- 6% of sales are through mobile
- 1.7m mobile apps were downloaded in the first year of launch
- Access to the web from tablets is now 8% of all online visits, up from close to 0% 18 months ago.
