Argos creates Digital Director role

Bertrand Bodson has been appointed to the newly created position of Digital Director, effective from 1 July. He reports to Managing Director John Walden and is a member of the Argos Executive Board. The role is central to bringing to life the strategic vision for Argos to be a digital retail leader, as announced to The City on 24 October 2012.

Bodson joins from EMI Music, where he was Executive Vice President, Global Digital, responsible for deployment of digital platforms, driving strategy and insight from the centre and creating innovative new digital formats. Prior to that he spent four years with Amazon in the United States and Europe, where he built their European DVD rental business (now Lovefilm). Bodson has also consulted with The Boston Consulting Group and was Co-Founder of Bragster.com, the largest social community for 'bragging, boasting and daring' (now owned by Guinness World Records). He is a native of Belgium and was educated at Harvard Business School.

John Walden, Managing Director of Argos, said: "We are delighted that Bertrand has joined Argos at this exciting time for our business. He will spearhead our efforts to make digital channels - online, mobile and tablet - the primary experiences for our customers, while making the most of our 30,000 colleagues and our national store network.

"Bertrand and his team will be critical to helping re-invent Argos as a digital business."

On his appointment, Bodson added: "It's a great time to join Argos and I am excited by the spirit of the people and the sense of urgency to make the digital vision a reality. With combined strengths in the local store network and digital channels already, I believe Argos is well positioned for the future."
