Argos becomes first retailer to achieve £1Bn of mobile sales
Argos has declared that sales involving a mobile device grew 38% in the year to February 28th 2015 and it has become the first multichannel retailer in the UK to generate £1bn in mobile-commerce revenue.
The figure includes sales that start on mobile and cover click and collect and home delivery.
Home Retail chief digital officer, Bertrand Bodson revealed the figures at Argos’ Christmas in July event last week.
Bodson took the chance to forecast another strong festive period for mobile for the Home Retail Group.
“We have seen astonishing growth in m-commerce in the past three years,” he said. “At Argos, we recognised this trend early on and invested in agile teams focused on optimizing apps that work for customers.”
According to Retail Week, Bodson cited the true value of mobile is as a ‘connector between the virtual and the physical world.’
“Our customers like to shop cross-channel and 90 per cent of purchases touch a store, with 35 per cent using the convenience of check and reserve,” he continued.
“It also works in reverse, with the new in-store browsers giving a real sense of the digital experience and encouraging them to try it.”
