Argos app hits 500,000 downloads in 3 weeks

Argos customers are relishing the opportunity to access over 25,000 Argos products on the go with the Argos iPhone and iPad app hitting the 500,000 milestone just three weeks after launching.

Following the launch of the free Argos iPhone application on 22 May, iTunes App Store activity revealed the Argos app as ranking consistently in the Top 10 free app downloads and ranked 1st in the Lifestyle category.

Argos faithful have posted over 1600 reviews of the application and tech savvy customers, optimistic that summer is here, placed pools and water games, tents and digital cameras as the top three performing categories.

With online sales at Argos reaching 32% of all company sales, the Argos app provides customers with the ideal shopping opportunity; positioned between the iconic Argos catalogue and the UK's number one online high street website, Argos.co.uk.

"We are thrilled with the early success of the Argos iPhone app and happy that customers are using it as an opportunity for shopping at Argos while on the move," said David Tarbuck, Argos Head of Multi-Channel Development. "The first version of the Argos app has been specially designed for those using our pioneering online 'Check & Reserve' service. The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive. We will continue to listen to our customers and use their comments to improve the Argos iPhone app and shape our future developments"

The iPhone app comes shortly after Argos announced plans to invest £70m into its store refurbishment programme. This investment will ensure Argos stays close to its customers while providing them with a modern multi-channel shopping experience specifically built around the way they choose to shop with Argos.

Argos sent 30 million mobile customer notifications in 2009, indicating that our customers are increasingly looking to mobiles as an information storage device.

Six million Argos customers have opted in for SMS notifications.
