AO Survey Reveals 30% of Brits Have Injured Themselves Doing DIY
ONE-IN-THREE Brits have admitted injuring themselves doing DIY - with bungling Scots the most likely to end up with bumps and scrapes.
A nationwide poll of 2,000 Brits found that just over 30 per cent said they had hurt themselves while doing a spot of DIY.
Scots topped the list with 40 per cent confessing they ended up with an injury caused by putting up shelves, drilling holes, sawing wood or mending things around the house.
Aberdeen came out as the most accident prone city, with 1 in 2 injuring themselves through DIY jobs.
The top five areas for DIY injuries were as follows in the study by online electrical retailer AO.com - which is launching a new range of DIY tools and appliances;
1 - Scotland - 40 per cent
2 - Yorkshire - 37 per cent
3 - North East - 36 per cent
4 - South East - 33 per cent
5 - Wales - 31 per cent
The least likely areas for DIY injuries were as follows;
1 - South West - 24 per cent
2 - East England - 26 per cent
3 - North West - 26 per cent
4 - West Midlands - 28 per cent
5 - London - 30 per cent
The study also found that 53 per cent of those polled said that doing DIY had caused rows with their partner.
It also found that Brits spend around £70bn on DIY every year - and today (May 2) is the most popular time for Brits to start a DIY project, ahead of the May Bank Holiday.
David Lawson, managing director of AO.com, said: “Set your alarms for 2 May – it’s DIY time! Whether you’re redecorating a whole room or just making a few small home improvements, we’ve got a wide variety of DIY tools and appliances to help you get the job done.”
