Amazon to open Texas DC and offer Prime service in India
Amazon has revealed plans to open a new fulfilment centre in San Marcos, Texas to be able to continue to meet customer demand.
Over $400m investment
Amazon is to open its fifth fulfilment centre in the state of Texas, as the retailer looks to continue to grow its operations to meet customer demand. Amazon has already invested over $400m in the state and the new 80,000 sq.m facility will pack and ship smaller customer items such as books, electronics and toys. The retailer currently operates three fulfilment centres in the state, located in Schertz, Coppell and Haslet, with a fourth facility under construction in Dallas.
Global investment
Amazon is also reportedly planning to invest $5bn to update and expand its services in India by introducing Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime, currently available in the USA, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Japan, is a subscription service enabling customers to have access to Amazon Instant Video and expedited shipping.
