Amazon launches order collection lockers in UK shopping centres

Amazon is poised to launch order collection lockers in London shopping centres, Retail Week has learnt, in what will be the etail giant’s first physical manifestation in UK retail.

The etail giant has reached agreement with top shopping centre owner Land Securities to install the lockers in a series of its properties in the London area, including One New Change in the City (pictured). The display features the phone number of Amazon customer services in the US.

The launch of the locker service in the UK follows a similar service in the US, where Amazon has placed the lockers in 7-Eleven stores in the Seattle area. The lockers at One New Change are expected to go live as soon as next week.

They will enable office workers in the capital to collect their orders without having to wait at home for a delivery. Customers who select the delivery option will be sent a personal code which will enable them to open the locker and retrieve their product.

The lockers are located in secondary space in the shopping centres - in One New Change they are in a corridor leading to the public toilets.

Land Securities declined to comment, while no-one at Amazon was available for comment.
