Aldi looking to take on former Kingswinford Focus DIY store

Aldi is engaging local residents prior to submitting an application to take on the former Focus DIY unit on Dudley Road, Kingswinford.

Kingswinford North and Wall Heath Ward Councillor, Dave Tyler, said: “All councillors and residents had notification of the meeting next week and I will be present.

“We are welcoming the jobs and anything that creates jobs in the borough is good for us.

“This building has been an eyesore for some years now and has stood empty for quite a while.

“It was a Focus DIY store about three years ago but before that it was originally built as car show room for Lex under British Leyland.

“In terms of it being an Aldi then I think healthy competition for the area is good and people like a variety of stores to shop in.

“Any investment in the area is good news.”

Aldi said it would create around 40 jobs as well as additional employment via construction and subsequent supply chain development.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “We hope local residents share our excitement over bringing a new store to Kingswinford. We are planning to provide a much more attractive setting off Dudley Road by refurbishing the former Focus DIY unit.

“The site has been vacant for quite some time, and our plans would see it brought back to life and provide a convenient new Aldi store for the local community.

“We would like to encourage people to find out more about the proposal and discuss it with the project team at our public exhibition. If there are any questions in the meantime, residents can call our freephone information line number on 0800 298 7040.”

A public exhibition will take place next Wednesday at St Mary’s Church Centre, The Village, Kingswinford,
