A new independent DIY store opens!
Surbiton Hardware Store is coming to Brighton Road in Surbiton. The new hardware shop is to open where Motto (clothing shop) and Hoi Polloi (now in St Andrew's Road) used to be at 23 Brighton Road.
The hardware shop is due to open on Saturday 26th November. We think this is a great result for Surbiton town centre. It's a very difficult time to get new stores to open, especially stores that actually sell things that people need to buy – as opposed to cafes and charity shops.
It's very rare to get small hardware shops these days when places like B&Q rule the marketplace. However, it is a double-shop and there are plenty of people in Surbiton (like me) who don't have a car and are unable to get to the nearest B&Q when they want to buy paint, screws, tools etc. So hopefully the shop will thrive and maybe even attract more people to town who will use our other shops and cafes.
Some of you may remember the old B&Q store where Waitrose is now. It's been a long time since we've had a proper hardware shop, so we'll be giving it our full support. Look out for our usual full coverage of the opening of the new store on the 26th November.
