5th John Lewis 'at home' store opens in Chester
The first of the new John Lewis 'at home' stores opened its doors in the region today.
Based at Greyhound Retail Park in Chester, the 38,000 sq ft shop, has created 200 jobs and is only the fifth branch of the new forrmat, which focuses on furniture, homewares, furnishing accessories and electrical and home technology.
Although the consumer market - particularly for homewares is difficult - branch manager Mark Blundell is convinced the concept will do well.
"The other retailers on the Greyhound Retail Park - even competitors - are pleased we're opening as we will drive footfall - and I think that says a lot. There is a lot of excitement about the new store, and people are pleased that Chester is the first of the new format in the region.
"John Lewis has a loyal following in the North West with our stores in Cheadle, Liverpool and the Trafford Centre, so people know the brand and that it stands for service and quality."
Looking forward to Christmas trading he is predicting continued high demand for high-tech items such as the ipad2 , while decorative items to brighten-up shoppers' homes for the festive period, will also sell well.
"I think this Christmas won't be much different from last year - though hopefully the weather won't be as bad. I don't expect people to indulge, but they will spend wisely."
